December 2008

Adopted SamTrans Strategic Plan 2009-13, with a specific goal of creating a culture of environmental stewardship and sustainability

2010

Founding signatory of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Sustainability Commitment

April 2011

Received the APTA Sustainability Commitment Bronze Recognition

June 2016

Enrolled in Community Choice Energy program that provides facilities with 100% renewable electricity

2018

Published first Sustainability Report, detailing operational data for FY2010-2016

April 2018

Received the APTA Sustainability Commitment Silver Recognition

February 2021

Finalized Adaptation & Resiliency Plan that identified SamTrans' vulnerability to sea level rise, flooding, and heat-related climate change impacts, and presented potential action alternatives to improve resilience

April 2021

Finalized Energy Procurement Strategy Report that analyzed future energy demands of a fully electrified fleet, environmental impacts, and funding opportunities

August 2023

Launched its first fleet of battery electric buses (BEBs) into revenue service. Part of fleet transition to retire and replace all diesel buses by 2034, six years ahead of the state mandate

July 2024

Awarded the APTA Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award, with specific recognition of SamTrans' transition to a 100% zero-emission fleet and dedication to sustainability
